Guntur District Police has arrested a person named Koteswara Rao in connection with the vandalization of the statue of NTR in Durgi village of Guntur district.
Guntur Rural Superintendent of Police Vishal Gunni said that the incident happened at around 5.30 pm on January 2.
A video of a man hitting the idol with a hammer went viral, following which the TDP created a ruckus.
The police responded immediately and within hours the accused was taken into custody. A case has been registered under sections 294 and 427 of IPC.
Mr. Vishal Gunni said that the investigation so far has revealed that the accused, in an inebriated state, had 140 mg of alcohol per 100 ml of blood when he tried to break the idol.
