With Biplab Kumar Deb resigning as the Chief Minister of Tripura on Saturday, Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Manik Saha will replace him for the post. Saha is also the president of BJP in the state.
Who is Dr Manik Saha?
Dr Saha, a professor of dental surgery, had joined BJP from Congress in 2016. He was appointed state BJP president in 2018. Dr Saha was elected to the Upper House in the biennial elections held earlier this year.
He will lead the BJP’s fight to retain the state in the next year’s assembly elections.
He said on Twitter, “I would like to express my thanks and gratitude for giving me the opportunity to serve the people of the state of Tripura by the top leadership of the BJP.”
Union minister Bhupendra Yadav and party general secretary Vinod Tawde were in Agartala as central observers.
Bhupendra Yadav in a tweet said, “Many congratulations to Dr. Manik Saha ji on being elected the leader of Tripura BJP Legislature Party. I am sure that under the guidance and leadership of respected Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji, Tripura will touch new heights of development. ” ,
Why did Biplab Kumar Deb resign?
Deb, who was sworn in as the first chief minister of the Bharatiya Janata Party in Tripura in 2018, has resigned from his post in a fast-paced political development in the state, which will face elections early next year.
Deb, after submitting his resignation to the state governor Satyadev Narayan Arya, said that he had served the people of the state with all his heart.
He later said on Twitter, “I thank the central leadership and the people of Tripura for giving me the responsibility of serving Tripura as a Chief Minister.” I have served my state wholeheartedly and will always work for the betterment of my state. Tripura will definitely move ahead on the path of development. Jai Hind”
Wishing Saha all the best in his new role, Deb said, “Congratulations and best wishes to Dr. Manik Saha ji on being elected as the leader of the Legislature Party. I am confident that Tripura will be under the vision and leadership of PM Narendra Modi ji. will prosper.”
