Vijayawada: A fourth-year medical student died while seven others, including three girls, were injured when a car fell into a canal near Adarsh ​​Nagar area of ​​Bapatla in Guntur district on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as B Srinidhi Reddy (22) is a resident of LB Nagar, Hyderabad.
Eight girl students, including three girls studying in a private medical college in Vijayawada, had gone to the Surya Lanka beach to watch the sunrise from the sea.
Other students in the car were rescued by the fishermen
They left at 1:30 pm and reached Surya Lanka around 3 pm. As there was no entry into the beach during the night, the Marine Police guarding the coast asked them to leave the area.
As they were not allowed to enter the beach, the students left for Vijayawada at around 4:45 am. Srinidhi Reddy, who was driving a sports utility vehicle, could not negotiate a curve and hit an electric pole on the side of the road. The car fell into the canal after hitting an electric pole.
Srinidhi Reddy died on the spot due to serious injuries. A group of fishermen saw the car falling into the canal and rushed to rescue them. He pulled the students out of the car. On the information of the fishermen, the police reached the spot and admitted the injured to the hospital for treatment. Bapatla Rural Inspector K Srinivas Reddy said there would have been more casualties had the fishermen not been present at the spot. He said that a case has been registered. Further investigation is being done.
