Meghalaya CM seeks exemption of CUET for state students

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma has written to the union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan sought exemption from the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) for students from the northeastern state seeking admission in various universities for the current academic session.

In the letter, Sangma said the state board exams have been delayed as a result of the recent assembly elections, posing “unprecedented challenges” to students taking the CUET exam.

He also said that the state government has taken steps to set up a state university, for which the administration will soon get the approval of the governor of Meghalaya.

Sangma, in his letter dated March 10, said, “In the light of the above, and since most of the colleges in the state are affiliated to the North Eastern Hill University, I request your kind office to kindly exempt the state of Meghalaya from conducting CUET. ” ,

Last year, the Central Government had exempted the students of Meghalaya from CUET following the request of the Chief Minister.

The Meghalaya Board of School Education recently issued a circular stating that students appearing for the Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate (HSSLC) exam 2023 need to appear for CUET if they want to pursue their undergraduate studies in central universities. I want to apply.

It also states that HSSLC students of Meghalaya who wish to pursue further studies in universities and colleges across the country will have to appear for CUET which is mandatory to secure admission to undergraduate courses.
