Mercedes EQG SUV becomes the first vehicle to get 1,000+ km battery technology of the Vision EQ2 – Times of India

Earlier in 2022, Mercedes-Benz made headlines for achieving a distance of 1,202 km in a real-world road trip. Vision EQXX Electric Salon. It did the same and broke its own record of 1,008 km which was recorded earlier. A key reason behind the EQXX’s amazing mileage was said to be a new innovative battery technology that Mercedes-Benz is reportedly planning to bring to the upcoming EQG electric SUV.

The G-Wagon’s electric counterpart, the EQG, will feature Mercedes-Benz’s new silicon material battery technology that has been used in the EQG prototype. The battery contains a silicon anode that, when combined with other chemical changes in the cells, contributes to a 20-40 percent increase in energy density. The EQXX prototype used a modified anode chemistry and a 495kWh battery pack with a weight of 100kg. Furthermore, instead of using liquid cooling which increases weight and decreases efficiency, the prototype’s battery pack relies heavily on air-cooling. It has been developed in collaboration with US-based Silla Nanotechnologies.

The report reveals that Mercedes-Benz has done extensive work on the existing ladder-frame chassis of the G-Wagon to accommodate the weight of the battery pack in the EQG electric SUV. In order to give the driver an authentic experience, Mercedes-Benz is said to have developed a software package that triggers the electric motors in off-road conditions that simulate the effect of three differential locks similar to the ICE G-Wagon. Is. In total, the EQG is said to be powered by four electric motors, two powering the front and two integrated into its rear axle assembly. It remains to be seen how the challenges created by new battery technology and EQG’s apparent design constraints will translate to real-world situations.
