Santosh Iyer becomes first Indian MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz in India – Times of India

Mercedes-Benz India has announced that Santosh Iyer will replace Martin Schwenk as the new Managing Director and CEO of the company with effect from January 1, 2023. Iyer is currently holding the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Mercedes-Benz India. This also means that he will be the first Indian MD and CEO of Mercedes-Benz in India.
Prior to his current role, Santosh headed Customer Service, Corporate Affairs and CSR functions (January 2016 to June 2019) at Mercedes-Benz India. He has been associated with Mercedes-Benz since 2009 in various leadership roles across various functions.
Meanwhile, Martin Schwenk, who joined Mercedes-Benz India on November 1, 2018, will assume new responsibilities as the President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Thailand with effect from January 1, 2023. Schwenk has been instrumental in the growth story of the brand and that of Mercedes. -Benz’s ongoing transition to electric vehicles in the Indian market.
During his tenure, Mercedes-Benz India launched the EQC SUV in 2020 as the first luxury EV in the country. The EQC was followed by the AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, which made its Indian debut earlier this month. Upon arrival, the EQS became the most powerful electric car in India, and now also holds the record for the highest range for any EV in the country.
At the launch of the Mercedes-AMG EQS 53 4MATIC+, Martin Schwenk also confirmed that the company has plans to launch two more EVs in the next four months, the locally assembled EQS 580 sedan, as well as the seven-seat EQB SUV. mercedes Electric vehicles are claimed to account for 25% of the total sales in India in the next five years.
