Metal road connectivity to every Himachal village in 5 years if BJP is re-elected: Anurag Thakur

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur on Tuesday said that the next BJP government in Himachal Pradesh will connect every village in the state with metal roads and improve the infrastructure of pilgrimage centers in five years.

Addressing election rallies in Ghumarvi, Jhanduta and Sadar assembly constituencies of Bilaspur district, Thakur said the BJP would implement ‘Project Shakti’ in the state in the next 10 years to improve transport infrastructure.

He said that Rs 12,000 crore would be spent over the next 10 years to improve transport and infrastructure near pilgrimage sites and temples in the state.

In order to strengthen the health infrastructure, the number of mobile clinic vans will be doubled in each assembly segment to ensure that the far-flung people get medical facilities.

Thakur said that the “double engine” government in Himachal Pradesh has constructed 12,000 km long rural roads in the last eight years and the state is also connected to the national capital with the modern Vande Bharat train.

The senior BJP leader targeted the Congress, accusing it of stalling development projects in the state, especially in Bilaspur district.

“We approved the Rs 1,470 crore AIIMS project, but the then Congress government did not allocate land for it. In 2010, the then BJP government of the state had proposed a central university for the state, but the Congress government obstructed the process,” Thakur said.

He said that the same fate happened to the Hydrocarbon Engineering College and Medical College proposed by the then BJP government.

Thakur’s father Prem Kumar Dhumal was the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh from 2007 to 2012.

The Union Minister said that the Modi government had proposed to set up an Indian Institute of Management in the state in 2014, but the then Congress government delayed the project.

“The Congress had promised government job to one person in every household in 2003. The party filled some forms and promised unemployment allowance in 2012, formed the government but did nothing,” Thakur said.

Himachal Pradesh will go to polls on November 12 and the counting of votes will take place on December 8.
