MNS alleges ‘Halal meat money’ is being used to fund terrorism, warns of agitation

The MNS will reportedly highlight that Halal meat is being imposed on non-Muslim consumers and Hindu butchers are being rendered jobless as the process of Halal “requires only Muslim butchers”.

The Raj Thackeray-led Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) is planning to launch a campaign against halal meat, alleging that money earned from halal certification is being used to support terrorism.

Halal certification is the religious certification of any product that makes it permissible for consumption by Muslims.

The MNS will reportedly highlight that halal meat is being imposed on non-Muslim consumers and Hindu butchers are being rendered jobless as the process of halal “requires only Muslim butchers”.

The MNS argued that its loudspeaker drive was more social than religious, adding that loudspeaker use at high volumes was affecting the health of people, including Muslims.

In April this year, right-wing organizations had targeted several brands including state-owned IRCTC, Air India and Amulfed Dairy, to display Halal certificate on their product labels.
