Varsha Raut is expected to confront her husband, who is currently in ED custody, and some other accused involved in the case.

Arrested Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut’s wife Varsha Raut on Saturday appeared before the Enforcement Directorate (ED) here in connection with a money laundering case related to the redevelopment of a ‘chawl’ and alleged irregularities in related transactions. The central agency had issued summons to Varsha Raut earlier this week. According to this, she reached the ED office at Ballard Estate in South Mumbai at 10.40 am.

She is expected to confront her husband, who is currently in ED custody, and some other accused involved in the case. A large number of policemen have been deployed outside the ED office. The central agency is probing an alleged Rs 1,034-crore land scam related to the redevelopment of Patra “Chaul” in Mumbai’s Goregaon area. The ED had arrested Rajya Sabha member Sanjay Raut in this case on August 1 and on Thursday, a local court sent him to further custody till August 8.

The ED had earlier told the court that Sanjay Raut and his family had received “crime proceeds” of over Rs 1 crore arising out of alleged irregularities in the housing redevelopment project. The ED, as part of its probe in April, had provisionally attached assets worth over Rs 11.15 crore of two associates of Varsha Raut and Sanjay Raut. The attached properties are in the form of land in Palghar, Safal (a town in Palghar) and Padgha (in Thane district) with Praveen M Raut, Sanjay Raut’s associate and former director of Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd. The properties include a flat in Mumbai suburb Dadar near Varsha Raut and eight plots on Kihim beach in Alibaug, jointly owned by Varsha Raut and Swapna Patkar, the wife of Sanjay Raut’s “close associate” Sujit Patkar. Told.

The ED had earlier said that Guru Ashish Construction Pvt Ltd was involved in the redevelopment of the chawl, which housed 672 tenants on 47 acres belonging to the Maharashtra Housing Area Development Authority (MHADA).
