NBA: Return of Golden State Warriors gives Dallas Mavericks 2-0 series lead

Stephen Curry scored 32 points as the Golden State Warriors staged a formidable fight to beat the Dallas Mavericks 126-117 on Friday and take control of their NBA Western Conference Finals series.

A blistering struggle at the Chase Center in San Francisco saw the Warriors reverse a 19-point first-half deficit to win, leaving the six-time NBA champions 2-0 in a best-of-seven series.

Curry may have led the Warriors in scoring, but it was all due to a strong team performance to make a remarkable turnaround.

Six Golden State players finished in double digits, with Jordan Poole, Kevon Looney and Andrew Wiggins all coming in with significant plays.

Looney in particular delivered a significant performance with a career-high 21 points and 12 rebounds.

Luka Doncic meanwhile produced another high-scoring masterclass for Dallas with 42 points, five rebounds and eight assists, while Jalen Brunson had 31 points.

But the night and victory belonged to the Warriors, who were let down by Dallas in the first half.

The Mavericks split for 72 points in the first two quarters leaving them 14 points clear, taking a 72-58 lead at the break.

Doncic led the offensive with 24 points in the first half, with Brunson hitting four three-pointers for a 20-point haul.

Reggie Bullock was also lethal from downtown, taking four of his five attempts from three-point range in the first half.

The Mavs led from the start, with Doncic leading them 5–0, before a 13–0 run put Dallas 23–8, just minutes away.

Staggering into action, the Warriors produced a 13-0 run of their own to get back to within three points at 26-23, but once again Dallas made it clear with a deadly long-range shooting.

Dallas scored 15 of 27 three-pointers during the first half, which is almost double the 15 of the eight converted by the Warriors.

Doncic sealed an incredible performance with a 29-foot three-pointer at the stroke of half-time.

But the momentum returned to Golden State in the third quarter, with the Warriors closing the Mavs’ lead within two at 85-83 in the fourth quarter.

A three-pointer from Otto Porter Jr. at the start of the fourth quarter gave the Warriors the first lead of the night at 86-85, and his nose at Golden State was not to be denied.

The Warriors pulled off a thrilling 43-32 win over Dallas in the final quarter to open the series in Texas for the third game on Sunday.
