Thousands of people, including former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, attended the funeral of prominent National Conference leader TS Wazir here on Saturday as various organizations demanded a CBI probe into his murder in Delhi. 67-year-old Wazir, a former member of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council, was found dead in a flat in west Delhi’s Moti Nagar on Thursday morning. Police are looking for two suspects behind his murder.

A case of murder was registered in the matter and the investigation was transferred to the Crime Branch of Delhi Police to assist with the Special Cell of the force. As the mortal remains of the deceased reached their Gandhi Nagar residence from Delhi, thousands of mourners bid their last farewell to the deceased.

Wazir was a prominent transporter who was also the President of All JK Transport Welfare Association and Jammu District Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC). Senior National Conference leaders including Vice President Omar Abdullah and Provincial President Devendra Singh Rana also took part in the funeral, which also included senior BJP leader and former Deputy Chief Minister Kavinder Gupta and JK Congress Senior Vice President and former Minister Raman Bhalla. .

Abdullah was seen comforting the bereaved family of the deceased, including his wife and son, who were in Canada and had returned after the news of the death of the vizier. The vizier was a leader with qualities of heart and mind, who served the people in his various capacities. Expressing solidarity with the bereaved family, Rana said that in his death the National Conference has lost a people-spirited leader and the void created would be difficult to fill.

The Wazir reached Delhi on 2 September and was about to go to Canada to meet his son. However, his highly mutilated body with his head wrapped in a plastic bag was found in the washroom of the flat after his family approached the police to trace his whereabouts. The body was taken in a procession to the Shastri Nagar crematorium and put up in flames.

Transporters and several Sikh organizations, including the Jammu DGPC, have demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder of Wazir.
