NCERT halts National Talent Search Examination Scheme – Times of India

New Delhi: The N c E r T have stopped National Talent Search Examination Plan till further orders as per an official order. The popular scholarship program is funded by the Ministry of Education and organized by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT).
The scholarship exam is conducted annually in two phases – Phase 1 (State level) and Phase 2 (National level).
NCERT in an official order said, “National Talent Search Scheme is a central sector scheme fully funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India. NCERT is an implementing agency for the NTS scheme. The scheme has been approved by 31 March 2021.” Went.” ,
“Further implementation in the present form of the scheme has not been approved and has been put on hold till further orders,” it said.
According to senior council officials, the ministry is reviewing the scheme so that it can be improved.
“Discussions are underway to improve NTSE examination which involves increase in the quantum of scholarship along with increase in the number of scholarships to benefit more students,” said a senior NCERT official.
However, he did not comment on the timeline for the same.
The exam is given in Hindi, English and 11 other Indian languages. Scholarships are awarded to candidates for pursuing courses in science and social sciences up to the doctoral level and professional courses such as medicine and engineering up to the second degree level.
While a scholarship of Rs 1,250 per month is given to the students of class 11th and 12th, a scholarship of Rs 2,000 per month is given to the undergraduate and postgraduate students.
A total of 2,000 scholarships are awarded in the country with 15 per cent reservation for Scheduled Castes, 7.5 per cent for Scheduled Tribes and 27 per cent for Other Backward Classes and 4 per cent for the Benchmark Disabled group of students.
