Assembly Speaker Ratan Chakraborty said BJP-led NDA’s presidential candidate Draupadi Murmu will visit Tripura on July 5 to garner support for her candidature. The presidential election will be held on 18 July. Draupadi Murmu is reaching here on July 5 as part of a campaign. She will hold a meeting with MPs and MLAs of the state at a hotel here. We are taking all measures to ensure smooth conduct of elections. Chakraborty said a team from the Parliamentary Secretariat would reach by July 16 or 17 to oversee the election process.

In Tripura, the ruling BJP has 36 MLAs while its ally Indigenous People’s Front of Tripura has seven. The BJP has two Lok Sabha MPs and one Rajya Sabha MP Manik Saha who is the current Chief Minister. Saha, who won the recently held by-polls, is yet to take oath as an MLA. CPI(M) has 15 MLAs in the 60-member Assembly and Congress has one MLA.
