Nitish Kumar pitches for opposition unity ahead of 2024 elections; Bihar’s CM will do a possible front?

Chief minister of Bihar Nitish Kumar He looked upbeat after holding several meetings with opposition parties in Delhi on Thursday with the aim of forging a united front for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. While he declined to comment on what the BJP thinks or says, Kumar said there has been a positive response from the opposition and talks will continue.

His three-day visit to Delhi came to an end and he returned to Patna in the evening. JDU National President Lalan Singh was also with him. On reaching Patna, Kumar spoke to the media.

“Don’t worry, everything is going well. Meetings were held for opposition unity and everyone has given positive feedback. You all know that. Talks are on and we will continue to talk to other parties. Let us all come together Will happen and a decision will be taken soon. I don’t want to comment on what BJP leaders say or think. They haven’t done anything,” he said.

Kumar now faces the responsibility of bringing together six political parties including Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress, Akhilesh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party, Naveen Patnaik’s Biju Janata Dal, K Chandrasekhar Rao’s BRS and Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP .

Congress will contact other parties. The decision was taken on Wednesday during a meeting at 10 Rajaji Marg, the residence of party president Mallikarjun Kharge in New Delhi. cnn-news18 Got information about the upcoming joint opposition meeting to be held in the last week of April or first week of May, as soon as Nitish and Congress will finish talking to the parties.

The Bihar Chief Minister is likely to play a key role in the entire campaign for the much-awaited Lok Sabha elections. According to sources, in the meeting with Lalu Prasad Yadav, Nitish discussed the issue of opposition unity.

“I am in touch with Lalu Prasad over phone and met him today. We will tell you about the question of opposition unity later.”

On Wednesday afternoon Nitish went to Deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav’s New Friends Colony residence and met Rajshree (Tejashwi’s wife) to bless the couple’s new born baby. Nitish Kumar’s team, comprising Tejashwi, minister Sanjay Jha and MP Manoj Jha, met Kharge and senior leader Rahul Gandhi.

“Today, Rahul Gandhi, Nitish ji, Tejashwi and other senior leaders are present. We had a historic meeting where we discussed many issues and we have decided that we all need to unite. Everyone has decided that all the parties should contest the elections together. Kharge said that all parties should fight the elections unitedly.

Nitish said the plan was to “bring together as many opposition parties as possible against the BJP” and “pave a common path” by focusing on mutual agreements rather than disagreements. He said that once all the opposition parties start talking positively in this direction, people may be surprised to see how many of them come together on one platform.

Addressing the media, Gandhi said: “To bring the opposition together, we held an important meeting. It is a process; the vision of the opposition will evolve. We will fight the ideological war. Today is a historic day to unite the opposition.” The decision has been taken.

In the evening, Nitish met Kejriwal at his residence. The common man is troubled by inflation. There should be such a government which can give development to the country and get rid of other problems. Nitish ji has taken the initiative of gathering everyone and forming the opposition and we are fully with him.

Nitish personally met Left leaders Doraisamy Raja, CPI general secretary and CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and discussed the future course of action. “Seat adjustments will be done at the state level. We believe we are making progress. Each state has its own challenge and hence the strategy will differ from state to state. The main focus will be on ousting the BJP from the Centre. UPA was formed after the 2004 elections. Yechury said, we should not jump the guns now.

Meanwhile, Bihar BJP president Samrat Chowdhary said: “I don’t understand whom Nitish Kumar wants to unite. All the people I have met want to be PM. He is the Chief Minister of Bihar, first he should worry about Bihar. Here people are fighting unemployment, riots are happening and they are running after a dream which will never be fulfilled.

An encouraging sign was that NCP chief Sharad Pawar announced his party’s support for forming an opposition front. The coming together of Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena, Congress and NCP to form the Maha Vikas Aghadi is also positive for the entire movement. The Congress-led UPA is already looking strong in states like Jharkhand and Tamil Nadu.

Condemning the idea of a non-Congress opposition front put forward by leaders like KCR and Mamata or even Akhilesh, Nitish believed that the Congress was a direct electoral rival of the BJP in more than 250 seats. Nitish Kumar still has the challenge of appeasing these leaders and bringing them into a united opposition front.
