Hubli: Beach Dussehra And DiwaliMany alumni associations of schools and colleges have started organizing Guruvandan, which is a tribute to their teachers and reunion of their batchmates.
Many alumni from member states, countries and around the world come home during the October holidays. These events have given a boost to hospitality, gift-making, transportation and other industries in North Karnataka.
Sources in these industries said that around 100 Guruvandans are planned in and around Hubli-Dharwad between Dussehra and Deepawali.
Dr Arun Kumar Chavan, medical superintendent of KIMS Hubli, said that the alumni of KIMS, formerly known as KMC, had planned programs in the pre-Covid days. “Now, such celebrations have resumed, and the campus has had three such events this year,” he said.
Doctor Subhash BaburuwadiThe KMC 1972 batch alumnus said that his batchmates had gathered at a hotel for three days last week. “160 batchmates arrived from different countries. He stayed here and visited the nearby places. In another sense, such events are boosting the economy of NK as they stay in hotels, use taxis and buy food. Dharwad Peda,” he said.
Bhimrao Piroji, an alumnus of SG Composite PU College, mishrikoti, said that his batchmates are doing Guruvandan on October 16. “We were 128 students and we expect over 100 to reunite. We have chosen this date as the holiday season for schools.”
Anand Baddi, owner of Anand Photo Lamination and Digital Mementos, said such events were put on hold during the pandemic. “We have been getting several orders for souvenirs since January,” he said.
