New Delhi did not respect the Naga national identity, said organization president Q.Tuccu

The head of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim or NSCN’s Isak-Muivah faction said on Wednesday that Nagas cannot merge with India but remain separate from Indians due to the need for interdependent relations between peoples and nations.

In a statement on the completion of seven years of the signing of the Framework Agreement with New Delhi, NSCN(IM) President Q. Tuku said the coexistence of Nagas and Indians is a “natural necessity as no individual or nation is completely isolated from others.”

Nagalim, part of India

He said that the Nagas have owned about 120,000 sq km over the years, while the Indian government claims that the Nagalims are an integral part of India. Nagalim refers to all the Naga-inhabited regions of Nagaland, the three contiguous north-eastern states and Myanmar.

“But there is neither history nor agreement to support that claim and that the Nagas are the owners of their land – everything on the surface and below, before it was accepted by the Indian government that the two men fought for decades. forced.” Mr Tukku said.

unique history

He said that the Framework Agreement, signed on August 3, 2015, recognized the unique history of the Nagas, which essentially meant that the lands of the Nagas were never part of India, despite the “Naga Desh” being annexed by the British imperialists in 1832. Has not been a part. ,

Mr Tukku indicated that New Delhi withdrew from the content of the Framework Agreement by not respecting the Naga national identity.

framework agreement

“The Framework Agreement says that sovereignty is with the people. We say that sovereignty is our inherent right, and the Nagas are a sovereign people, but it should be recognized by other nation-states,” he said.

“Indian government interlocutors are making the Naga flag and the Constitution an issue. It is well known that the flag and constitution are components of recognized sovereignty and unique history,” said Mr. Tuku.

He also said that New Delhi and the NSCN(IM) had mutually agreed that the integration of Naga regions was a “legitimate right of the Nagas” and would be finalized through a political process at the earliest.

Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Manipur are opposing the idea of integrating all the Naga-populated areas under one umbrella, which is a long-term goal of the NSCN(IM).
