“Not Willing To Be A Friend”: MK Stalin Moves Resolution Against Tamil Nadu Governor

He alleged that Governor Ravi is giving wrong information regarding the Bills.

Chennai:

After the DMK government moved a fresh resolution against Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi for allegedly not passing Bills passed by the state assembly, Chief Minister MK Stalin today said the Governor was working against the welfare of the people.

Speaking in the state assembly, MK Stalin said, “This is the second resolution that I am bringing against the governor. The Sarkaria Commission had said that the governor should be a separate person. Dr. Ambedkar has said that the governor should be the head of the state.” rights should not be interfered with. Government. Several orders of the Supreme Court have said that the Governor should be a guide. But our governor is not ready to be the friend of the people.

Tamil Nadu Minister Durai Murugan today moved a resolution in the State Assembly urging the Central Government and President Draupadi Murmu to immediately issue appropriate directions to the Governor of Tamil Nadu to clear the Bills passed by the Assembly within a specified period .

DMK chief Stalin alleged that the Tamil Nadu governor criticized the Bill in a public forum and stands against the welfare of the people.

“He spoke about the Bills passed in favor of the people of Tamil Nadu on public platform, especially when the PM came to Chennai or when I went to Delhi. As per the Constitution, if a Bill is returned, once passed it is sent back If the bill is passed, the Governor should give assent. The nominee should be given the right to sign when the law is passed by the Legislative Assembly,” Mr Stalin said.

The Chief Minister alleged that Governor Ravi was giving wrong information regarding the Bills.

“We are only criticizing the actions of the governor. We will not keep quiet if the proceedings of the assembly are disrupted. The governor is stalling the bill as per his wish and giving wrong information. We are not here to please anyone. The NEET Bill and the Online Gambling Ban Bill were passed after deliberations and committees at several levels,” Mr. Stalin said.

The DMK and its alliance partners voted in favor of the resolution moved by Durai Murugan.

However, AIADMK MLAs staged a walkout from the Assembly alleging that they were not given time to speak in the House.

“This respected House records with deep regret the action of the Governor of Tamil Nadu in stalling several Bills indefinitely without the consent of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu – on the basis of its sovereignty and legislative responsibilities enshrined in the Constitution of India – thus acting against the welfare of the people of Tamil Nadu,” the resolution read.

Further, the resolution states that the controversial comments made by the Governor in a public forum regarding the Bills passed by the Tamil Nadu Assembly and sent for assent are not in consonance with his office, the oath he has taken and the interests of the State. state Administration.

The DMK government said Governor Ravi’s comments are against the Constitution and established conventions, and lower the dignity of this House and the supremacy of the Legislature in a parliamentary democracy.

In the resolution, the Stalin government urged the central government and the President to set a specific deadline for the respective governors to give assent to the bills passed by the legislatures, which are the voice of the people of the state.

“In order to establish the legislative power of the Legislative Assembly of Tamil Nadu and to prevent the Governor from acting against the interests of the people of Tamil Nadu and thereby scuttling the principles of democracy and the sovereignty of this august Legislative Assembly, this august House unanimously Emphasizes that the Central Government and the President should immediately issue appropriate directions to the Governor to give assent to the Bills passed by this Assembly within a specified period.”

Earlier this month, Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi, while interacting with civil services aspirants, explained the governor’s role in the Constitution and said that he has the option to give assent or withdraw a bill passed by the assembly, and said that the latter means “Bill is dead”.

The governor said that “stop” is a “decent language” used to reject a bill.

Shri Ravi said that the responsibility of the Governor as defined by the Constitution is to protect the Constitution.

He also said that the governor looks into the bill if it “does not transgress constitutional limits” and that the state government does not “exceed its competence”.

Last month, CM Stalin pulled up Governor Ravi after he returned the online gambling prohibition bill four months after the state legislature passed it.

Meanwhile, several posters were seen across Chennai on Saturday asking him to ‘get out’ after his “Bill is dead” remark against Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi.

Chief Minister Stalin criticized the governor and alleged that he “ran away” from his duties and did not give assent to 14 bills.
