NPCI enables electricity bill payment on 123PAY for feature phone users

New Delhi: The National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) on Friday announced that the electricity bill payment service has been enabled for over 70 electricity boards on 123PAY, an instant payment system for feature phones.

“Powered by Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS), this facility will facilitate users to make an easy and quick electricity bill payment service through 123PAY to make payments from their bank accounts instantly,” NPCI said in its statement.

123PAY was developed by NPCI to allow feature phone users to conduct digital transactions based on four technology options: calling an IVR (Interactive Voice Response) number, app functionality in feature phones, missed call- based approach, and proximity sound-based as well. payment.

With the introduction of electricity bill payment on 123Pay, feature phone users will eliminate the need to do paper checks or make cash payments at the utility office. Though the 123Pay service was launched for feature phone users, who can use the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payment service in a safe and secure manner, the electricity bill payment service will be available for smartphone users as well.

NPCI said in its statement, consumers will be able to pay electricity bill in 10 regional languages ​​by calling the payment number ‘080 4516 3666’ or ‘6366 200 200’ operated by Bharat Bill Payment Service (BBPS).

After this the customer will have to mention the name of the electricity board for which payment will have to be made.
