An alleged serial killer in Madhya Pradesh, believed to have killed four security guards in his sleep, has been caught on CCTV attacking one of his victims. Sources said that the man, identified as 19-year-old Shiv Prasad, was inspired by the blockbuster KGF and wanted to become famous.

He was arrested in Bhopal on Friday morning after police tracked down a mobile phone allegedly stolen from one of his murder victims.

Chilling security footage shows the killer, in shorts and a shirt, hitting his victim and then hitting his head with a stone. After making sure that no one saw him, he withdrew.

According to police officer Tarun Nayak, the youth, who killed him only at night, was inspired by the Kannada film KGF revolving around a killer. He reportedly told the police that he planned to target the police further.

Police said that Shiv Prasad killed three security guards in Sagar and another security guard in Bhopal last night. Since his only aim was to become famous, he only targeted the sleeping security guards.

The killings, which appeared to follow a pattern, gave rise to the fear of a “stone pelter” who attacks only in the dead of night.

In May, a watchman was killed at an overbridge construction site and a shoe was placed over his battered face.

None of the victims was robbed.

State Home Minister Narottam Mishra said, “It was a blind murder. The police chased him as he was carrying the mobile phone of his second or third victim. Based on the location of the phone, he was nabbed in Bhopal.”

On Thursday night, he killed a 23-year-old man named Sonu Verma with a marble rod. Sonu Verma was a security guard in a marble shop.

Police said the spree to kill Shiv Prasad began in Sagar, 169 km from Bhopal.

Kalyan Lodhi, a factory guard, was murdered on August 28. He was hit on the head with a hammer.

The very next night, 60-year-old security guard Shambhu Narayan Dubey was stoned to death at an arts and commerce college.

The next day the man killed Mangal Ahirwar, the watchman of a house.

The killings created panic in the city and patrols were intensified. CCTV cameras showed a man, believed to be the killer, running away.
