One-year-old child dies of measles in Mumbai, 10 deaths this year

New Delhi:

Twenty new measles cases were reported in Mumbai today, while a one-year-old girl died of the viral infection, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. Since January 1 this year, 220 measles cases have been reported in Mumbai.

The number of measles deaths is up to 10 since the beginning of this year.

“In view of the outbreak of measles in Mumbai, it is appealed to all citizens to vaccinate children in the age group of nine months to five years,” the civic body said.

As a precautionary measure, 120 beds have been reserved for measles patients at SevenHills Hospital in Andheri. This includes 100 oxygen beds, 10 ventilators and 10 beds in Intensive Care Units (ICUs).

For the last two years, the hospital is functioning as a dedicated COVID-19 hospital.
