Former Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Sunday urged the DMK government to implement a GO issued in 2009 during the then DMK government on seniority and pay structure of government doctors.

In a statement, he cited reports that action has been initiated against the representatives of the unions who had planned a protest on October 30 outlining their demands.

“The chief minister should think of his earlier statement as the leader of the opposition when he said it was his to protest [government doctors’] rights and duties. But now he is taking action against them.

The former CM also urged the DMK government to implement GO No. 354 issued in 2009 and cancel all actions initiated against the representatives of the doctors’ unions, who were planning a protest on October 30.

Following a request from the Tamil Nadu Government Doctors’ Association, a committee was formed in July 2009 to look into the opportunities for promotion of government doctors at various levels.

After the panel submitted its report, the then DMK government issued GO (Ms) No. 354 through the Department of Health and Family Welfare after examining the recommendations of the committee in October that year.
