Parliament Budget Session | Airlines faced 546 technical issues during flight operations in 2022: Center

The government said on Thursday that domestic airlines faced a total of 546 technical problems during the operation of the aircraft last year.

Of these, the largest airline of the country is Indigo while 215 obstacles were encountered spicejet 143 and 97 disturbances were observed in Vistara.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Air India faced 64 roadblocks, while those reported by Go First and Akasa Air were 7 and 6, respectively.

In 2022, Air Asia (India) reported 8 disruptions, Alliance Air 3 disruptions, Fly Big (1), TruJet (1) and Bluedart Aviation (1).

A total of 1,090 problems were faced by the airlines in the last two years.

Last year, the number of snags was slightly higher at 546 as compared to 544 in 2021.

When asked whether low-cost airlines lead to more technical glitches in the country, Minister of State for Civil Aviation VK Singh replied in the negative.

“No sir, the aircraft experienced a technical fault during operation. This could be due to improper functioning/malfunction of the systems/equipment/parts fitted on the aircraft.

The minister also said that some technical disruptions may require the flight crew to take action such as air turn back, abort take-off, or go around keeping in view the safety of the operation and are usually serious. are taken to prevent incidents/accidents.

“Operators take action to rectify the technical fault based on the guidance provided by the manufacturer prior to further operating the aircraft,” it added.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) ensures that airlines and maintenance organizations continue to comply with the regulatory requirements for which they were initially approved through a system of surveillance, audits, spot checks and night surveillance went.

“In case of non-compliance, DGCA ensures that rectification is done by the airlines/maintenance organisation. DGCA initiates enforcement action against the organization/personnel found in violation which may include warning, suspension and cancellation apart from imposing financial penalty,” Mr Singh said.
