‘People traveling abroad can bridge booster dose gap’

New Delhi The National Technical Advisory Group on Immunization (NTAGI) said on Wednesday that those wishing to travel abroad can reduce the gap of nine months prescribed by the government between a second and booster dose of the Kovid-19 vaccine. The recommendation was made to the Union Health Ministry, which is yet to make a formal announcement.

The panel of technical experts said that in the country to which they are traveling, individuals can take a booster dose if needed.

The move comes in the backdrop of many people going abroad for work.

A person with knowledge of the matter said on condition of anonymity, “NTAGI recommends reducing the gap of nine months between the second dose and the booster dose for those who need work and other occupation-related matters.” Have to go out of India for that.”

Queries sent to the Ministry of Health remained unanswered at the time of publication.

The NTAGI is scheduled to meet again this week to review immunization data for children aged 5-12 years for COVID-19 and work out a protocol for vaccination.

The last two meetings were inconclusive, with NTAGI experts yet to be convinced about the available pediatric data for vaccination.

Meanwhile, the drug regulator approved Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin for children aged 6-12 years, Biologicals E.K Corbevax for children aged 5-11 years and Cadila’s ZyCoV-D for children above 12 years Is.

“No decision was taken in the recent NTAGI meetings. The next meeting is likely to be held this week to review the data available for vaccination of children aged 5-12 years.” The regulator may have approved,” said the person.

Last month, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya had said that the Center would await the approval of the NTAGI before administering the Kovid-19 vaccine to children in the age group of 5-12 years.
