PKL: Bengal Warriors hope to stop losing streak, Patna Pirates aim to maintain winning streak

Defending champions Bengal Warriors will look to make a comeback when they take on Jaipur Pink Panthers in a Pro Kabaddi League match here on Monday.

The Warriors have suffered humiliating defeats in their last two innings despite skipper Maninder Singh taking the lead. After the match, Telugu Titans will face three-time champion Patna Pirates.

Captain Maninder Singh has been consistently building Super 10s for the Warriors, but he fails to praise his work in defence. Dabang Delhi KC scored 52 while Patna scored 44 against a defense that lacked cohesion.

Warriors’ Iranian all-rounder Esmail Nabibakhsh was not part of the squad against Patna due to injury, while Abozar Mighani is looking off-colour in the right corner.

Jaipur Pink Panthers have had a stop-start campaign with two wins and two losses. After a strong start to the season, all the pressure will once again be on Arjun Deshwal.

The former U Mumba raider has four Super 10s in so many matches. But skipper Deepak Hooda’s form and lack of a good raider to support Arjun Deshwal will be a matter of concern for coach Sanjeev Kumar Baliyan. The usually dependable Sandeep Dhull has also been out of form for the Panthers in the left corner.

A lot of questions were asked about Patna Pirates’ playoff prospects after star raider Pradeep Narwal lost in the auction. But the men in green have responded to their critics with a dominating performance on the mat – the latest coming up against defending champions Bengal Warriors.

In the absence of a top raider, the likes of Monu Goyat and Sachin have stepped up to give Patna a crucial win. Kabaddi is a team sport and it seems that Patna has taken the place of a top athlete with a combination of young stars. Their defenders Mohammadreza Chianeh, Sajin C and Sunil have also started the season well.

Telugu Titans have shown their potential in the opening matches of the season which have been hampered by injuries. Their star raider Siddharth Desai is the latest member in the rehabilitation room but his absence was not felt against Bengaluru Bulls on Saturday.

The Titans dominated the match with raider Ankit Beniwal and defender Sandeep Kandola. But skipper Rohit Kumar’s form (1 point throughout the season) will be a major concern, especially as he missed a huge opportunity to win against his southern rivals and his former team.
