Plane carrying 72 people crashes in Nepal’s Pokhara, rescue operation underway

A 72-seater passenger plane crashed on the runway at Pokhara International Airport in Nepal. According to ANI, the Yeti Airlines plane carrying a total of 68 passengers and four crew members crashed between the old airport and Pokhara International Airport, Yeti Airlines spokesperson Sudarshan Bartaula told a local publication.

As per the latest updates, Yeti Airlines was operating an ANC ATR 72 aircraft which was flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara with 68 passengers on board. Rescue operations are underway and the airport is currently closed.

“I am deeply saddened by the tragic accident of Yeti Airlines ANC ATR 72 en route to Pokhara with passengers from Kathmandu. I sincerely appeal to the security personnel, all agencies of the Government of Nepal and the general public to launch an effective rescue.” Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal said on Twitter.
