PM Modi unveils Gati Shakti National Master Plan for Infrastructure

“Development is not possible without quality infrastructure and the government has now resolved to develop it holistically,” he said.

“Gati Shakti joins various departments for coordinated development of projects from road to railways, aviation to agriculture,” the prime minister said.

Stating that the high logistics cost in India at 13% of GDP is affecting the competitiveness in exports, he said, “PM Gati Shakti aims to reduce logistics cost and turnaround time. It will promote India as an investment destination.”

The Prime Minister said the speed and scale India is witnessing under his government was never seen in the last 70 years of independence.

Giving examples, he said that the first inter-state natural gas pipeline was commissioned in 1987. “From then till 2014, 15,000 km of natural gas pipeline was constructed. Currently, more than 16,000 km of new gas pipelines are being built.

Five years before the BJP government came to power in 2014, 1,900 km of rail line was doubled, while in the last seven years, 9,000 km of rail line doubling took place.

“Similarly, as against 3,000 km of railway line electrification in the five years prior to 2014, there has been 24,000 km of rail line doubling in the last seven years.”

“From 250 km of metro in 2015, the metro rail network has expanded to 700 km and work is in progress on another 1,000 km,” he said, adding that in the last seven years, only 60 gram panchayats compared to 1.5 lakh.
