Police sub-inspector dies after being shot in Melakotaiyur

Preliminary investigation revealed that the 59-year-old man committed suicide using his service revolver

A special sub-inspector (SSI) of police was found dead after being shot at his residence in Melakottaiyur on the outskirts of Chennai on Tuesday morning. Preliminary investigation revealed that he committed suicide by using a service revolver.

Gautman, 59, a native of Cheyur, was working as an SSI with the Security Branch, and also as a personal security officer to a judge of the Madras High Court. He was living with his family at the Tamil Nadu Police Quarter in Melakottaiyur in Chengalpattu district.

Police personnel recovered his body and service weapon from Thalambur. Senior officials went to the spot and investigated. The body was sent to the government hospital Chengalpattu for post-mortem.

Meanwhile, Thalambur police have registered a case under Unnatural Death. The reasons for his extreme decision are being ascertained.
