G. candidates appearing forGraduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) Seeking to postpone the 2022 entrance exam. Citing the rising case of Covid-19 as the major reason, candidates have started an online petition which has already garnered over 24,000 signatures.
“With the current third wave, COVID-19 has spread severely in many states, cities due to its new variant Omicron. Several studies including a study conducted by IIT Kanpur predict that the peak of the third wave is expected in early February and the wave will end by April. Hence the peak is most likely to coincide with the normal exam dates of GATE,” the petitioners said.
He said, “If the exam dates are not postponed, then there is an imminent risk of the candidates appearing for GATE 2022 getting infected and spreading it, putting their lives as well as that of their family member’s. There is danger too.”
It further said, “On behalf of the GATE participants who signed this petition, I request you to postpone the GATE 2022 exam dates in the month of April to a safe date.”
At the time of writing this article, 24,376 people had signed the petition on Tuesday evening.
There has been a demand to postpone the gate. Earlier, IIT Kharagpur did not issue the admit cards and postponed the release twice. The institute also said that it is reviewing the situation across the country before releasing the admit card. The candidate had said that it would be difficult for him to reach the examination center amid restrictions on movement in different parts of the country.
