Prasad reiterates the need for more agricultural research

Agriculture Minister P.Prasad on Saturday inaugurated the golden jubilee of Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) at a function at the university’s main campus at Vellanikakara here.

Revenue Minister K. Rajan, who is also a member of the executive committee of the university, presided.

The Minister, who appreciated the contribution of the University in the agriculture sector of the State, reiterated the need for more research in this area.

“Research results should be reflected in the soil. Scientific research is essential for the development of the agriculture sector,” he said.

The university should provide a support system for every farmer in the state. It should help in increasing their income to lead a decent life.

Micro rhizome technology for ginger propagation and micro propagation technology for large scale multiplication of banana developed by the College of Agriculture, Vellanikkara and Banana Research Centre, Kannara were transferred to the farmers at the function.

The University also started an Entrepreneurship Development Center at BRS, Kannara. As part of the Golden Jubilee celebrations, the Minister inaugurated a Faculty Guesthouse on the campus. He also released five books written by scientists of the University.

Vice-Chancellor R. Chandrababu, who delivered the welcome address, said that free electronic workspace accounts would be given to all the students of the university.
