Roberto Firmino scored an 87th-minute equalizer to dent Arsenal’s Premier League title challenge as Liverpool drew 2-2 on Sunday.

The Brazilian forward soared at the far post to complete a stunning comeback for the Merseyside club after Arsenal took a two-goal lead at Anfield.

Gabriele Martinelli and Gabriele Jesus kept the leaders of the league under control. But Mohamed Salah reduced the deficit before half-time and then missed a penalty after the break.

Arsenal look set to extend their lead at the top of Manchester City to eight points after Firmino struck what could be a decisive goal in the title race.

It was all going well for the visitors, with Martinelli capitalizing on a mistake by Virgil van Dijk to put them ahead in the eighth minute.

The forward fell straight into his path after Van Dijk’s attempted clearance through goal and a low shot slipped past Alisson.

Arsenal went 2–0 up in the 28th through Gabriel Jesus, with defender Martinelli crossing for his fellow Brazilian to head home from close range.

Mikel Arteta’s team were cruising and the Anfield crowd cowered until Liverpool responded.

Salah pulled one back in the 42nd after Jordan Henderson’s misdirected effort.

Liverpool progressed in the second half and had a chance to equalize when they were awarded a penalty seven minutes after the restart.

Rob Holding brought down Diogo Jota but Salah failed to take advantage of the opportunity when he fired wide.

Liverpool had more chances, with substitute Darwin Nuñez saving from Aaron Ramsdale, but Arsenal looked to be holding out for a vital win until Firmino’s goal.

It could have been worse for the London club if not for advice from Ramsdale and two late saves to deny Ibrahima Konate.

Meanwhile, the body in charge of professional refereeing said it would review the clash between Andy Robertson and assistant referee Constantine Hatzidakis.

Video replays showed Hatzidakis raised his hand when he collided with a Liverpool defender.
