Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) leader Premalatha Vijayakanth on Saturday said killings are happening everywhere in Tamil Nadu and questioned the law and order situation in the state.

While addressing the journalists here, she wanted to take concrete steps to save the lives of the people. “But if you ask the rulers, they say no such incident happens; But men die in police custody, daylight sexual violence against women and chain snatching are on the rise.

Ms. Premlata questioned the achievements of the DMK government in the last one year and wanted to know what the ‘Dravidian model’ is. He said the DMK failed to fulfill its poll promises, which included Rs 1,000 in aid to women family heads, abolition of NEET and gold loan waiver for all. “We should only promise what we can,” she said.

Textile industries in six districts including Coimbatore, Erode, Salem and Namakkal were shutting down due to the rise in the prices of cotton and yarn. Lakhs of workers were affected by the bandh. Instead of blaming each other, the central and state governments should work together and immediately ban the export of cotton, he said.
