Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi on Thursday directed the Chief Secretary to constitute a committee to simplify the land ownership rules. He said that this initiative would go a long way in streamlining the existing process of ‘Girdawari and Jamabandi’ which would save people from sheer exploitation through illegal practices to deprive them of their proprietary rights.

Giving a stern warning to the Deputy Commissioners to eliminate corruption from public life, Channi categorically stated that it has to be eradicated without any decency. The Chief Minister asked the Deputy Commissioners to ensure punctuality in the offices from 9 am and even work after 5 pm so that the goods are effectively distributed to the satisfaction of the public.

He called for ensuring speedy redressal of people’s grievances and holding meetings with field officers after 5 pm so that they can focus exclusively on administrative work and ongoing development for field visits on any two days in a week. to reserve for monitoring activities. Describing clean, responsive and transparent administration as the hallmark of his government, Channi asked the Deputy Commissioners to organize ‘facilitation camps’ to clear the backlog of social security pensions.

He also directed to organize these camps at tehsil, block and district level on October 29 and 30, besides October 20 and 21, a statement said. In order to give impetus to the ongoing development works and welfare schemes, the Chief Minister directed the Deputy Commissioners to hold meetings with the MLAs to address various concerns related to their respective constituencies on priority. Coming down heavily on the existing system of “corruption”, especially in registry offices, Channi asked the Deputy Commissioners not to allow Tehsildars to register after 5 pm, after office hours.

The Deputy Commissioners will have to ensure that people are not forced to pay bribes to get their work done such as approval of construction plans of their houses, driving from field offices and arms licences. He asked them to set up a mechanism to check corruption with a heavy hand to ensure clean, accountable and transparent governance.
