Punjab Police Seizes “Tiffin Bomb” From Ground Near Indo-Pak Border

Punjab Police has said that it has foiled a possible terrorist attack after it recovered a tiffin box filled with explosives hidden in an agricultural area near the Indo-Pak border in Firozpur district on the eve of Diwali.

The seizures were made in Ali’s village on Wednesday after the interrogation of three people arrested earlier this week in connection with the Jalalabad blasts case.

The Ludhiana Rural Police on Monday arrested two people on charges of providing shelter and logistical support to Ranjit Singh alias Gora, an accused in the Jalalabad blast case being probed by the National Investigation Agency, said Director General of Police (DGP) Iqbal Preet Singh Sahota. was arrested. NIA).

The two arrested include Jaswant Singh alias Shinda Baba, a resident of Jhugge Nihanga village in Ferozepur and Balwant Singh of Walipur Khurd village in Ludhiana. The DGP said that Ranjit Singh alias Gora has also been arrested.

According to an official statement, a “tiffin bomb”, two pen drives and Rs 1.15 lakh in cash were recovered from the trio earlier.

During the investigation of the case, it was revealed that the accused had another “tiffin bomb”, which they had hidden in the farming fields.

“Following the disclosure of the accused persons, a joint search operation was carried out by teams of Counter Intelligence (Punjab Police), Ferozepur and Ludhiana and CIA (Crime Investigation Agency) Jagraons in village Ali of Ferozepur on Wednesday and the tiffin bomb was recovered, said the DGP.

An FIR has been registered under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Sidhwan Bet police station in Ludhiana Rural.

Additional Director General of Police (Internal Security) RN Dhoke said further investigation is on in the case and more arrests are expected soon.

The National Investigation Agency on Monday conducted searches at four places in Punjab’s Fazilka and Firozpur districts in connection with the blast in a two-wheeler near the Punjab National Bank branch in Jalalabad in Fazilka.

Balwinder Singh alias Bindu of village Jhugge Nihanga Wale was killed in a motorcycle blast on 15 September.

Tiffin bombs have also been recovered in Amritsar Rural, Kapurthala, Fazilka and Tarn Taran in the last few months.

The Punjab Police had earlier thwarted a major terror attack attempt after recovering a double-decker tiffin box bomb filled with Improvised Explosive Device (IED) at the Indo-Pak border in Amritsar ahead of Independence Day.

The police had then said that 2-3 kg of IED was packed in tiffin boxes and could have been flown from Pakistan to India via drones.
