Punjab voted for AAP, got ‘I love you’ from Arvind Kejriwal

“Punjab Walo Tussi Kamal Kar Ditta, we all love you, Punjab. The result is massive ‘Inquilab’, big seats have been shaken,” Arvind Kejriwal said.

This is revolution in Punjab, people have said that Kejriwal is not a terrorist, he said that MLAs should not be overconfident about the mandate and should work for the welfare of the people.

Such a huge mandate scares us too, we will not break people’s trust: Kejriwal

If AAP wins Punjab, it will be the party’s first victory in the state and a major improvement from its performance in the 2017 elections, when it finished second only to the Congress.

Congress entered the elections, battling factionalism and anti-incumbency. The party changed its chief minister in September last year, even as the party’s new state unit chief Navjot Singh Sidhu hinted about his own chief ministerial ambitions. The Congress eventually announced Charanjit Singh Channi as the first Dalit chief minister of Punjab, backing him for the chief minister’s post, days before polling on 20 February.

The Shiromani Akali Dal, which eventually broke its alliance with the BJP over the three agricultural laws that were repealed, forged an alliance with the Bahujan Samaj Party for the assembly elections.

This is the first time the BJP has contested more than 65 seats in Punjab. It forged an alliance with former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh’s Punjab Lok Congress and SS Dhindsa-led SAD (United).

Punjab recorded an average voter turnout of 65.50% on February 20, as against 77% in 2017.

According to the latest Election Commission data, Aam Aadmi Party is leading in 91 seats, followed by Congress (17) and Shiromani Akali Dal (6), out of 117 seats in Punjab Assembly.

Sidhu himself is trailing from Amritsar East seat.

Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) candidate Jeevan Jyot Kaur is leading by 25,536 votes, Congress’ Navjot Singh Sidhu is leading by 20,334 votes and Shiromani Akali Dal candidate Bikram Singh Majithia is leading by 16,154 votes.

Sukhbir Singh Badal of Shiromani Akali Dal is also trailing by a margin of 11,165 votes over Jagdeep Kamboj of Aam Aadmi Party.

SAD chief Parkash Singh Badal is also trailing behind Aam Aadmi Party’s Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan by 9,474 votes from Lambi seat.
