Rajya Sabha leaders expressed displeasure over Justice Ramana’s remarks

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court has complained about not being debated in Parliament at a function

Floor leaders of the Rajya Sabha, in a meeting with Chairman Venkaiah Naidu, ahead of the Winter Session of Parliament starting Monday, expressed concern over the recent remarks of the Supreme Court Chief Justice on the disruption in Parliament.

Speaking at the 75th Independence Day celebrations organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association, Chief Justice NV Ramana complained about the lack of debate in Parliament. He said it was “a state of apology” and the absence of quality debate leaves many aspects of the laws ambiguous, adding to the burden on the court.

Sources said the House leaders said that if norms of functioning in legislatures are being violated and other constitutional agencies should not make adverse remarks, then it is for the presiding officers to take appropriate action. However, he did not take the name of Justice Ramana.

In response, Chairman Naidu said, “I can understand your concerns. But such comments have to be seen in the context of the functioning of the legislatures, which is characterized by frequent disruption, uncontrolled behavior and violent action, which has detrimental effects. The best way to counter them is to ensure proper functioning of legislatures by ensuring their dignity and dignity as such comments are resonating with what the public sees about the working of legislatures. ,

Around 40 leaders and ministers from different parties participated in the meeting.

Some opposition leaders – BJD’s Prasanna Acharya, BSP Satish Chandra Mishra, CPI(M) John Brittas and CPI Binoy Viswam – expressed concern over the incidents during the last monsoon session. He also said that repetition of monsoon session should be avoided.

According to the analysis of Rajya Sabha Secretariat, 70% of the functional time of the House was lost due to frequent disruptions.

Shri Naidu urged the leaders of the Government and the Opposition to talk to each other regularly to enable effective functioning of the House. He appealed to all sections to cooperate in ensuring a productive winter session.
