Ramgarh: Owner of about 400 multi-storey buildings under the jurisdiction of Cantonment Board Ramgarh (CBR) on Monday said they would soon hit the streets to press for amendments to the 98-year-old building bye-laws. CBR Those who consider buildings above G+1 to be illegal in their area. Recently, the CBR served notices to 400 such buildings, which are G+4, threatening to demolish them illegally.
On Monday, the building owners held a press conference under the banner of Ramgarh Vikas Manch and said that they would soon announce the dates of the agitation. A member said, “The builders and business community are living in fear because of the CBR notice.
Kamal Bagaria, owner of a shopping mall in Ramgarh Garrison and president of Ramgarh Vikas Manch, said, “The building bye-laws need to be amended to suit today’s times. When those laws were made, Ramgarh was a village. Today, it is an emerging city close to the capital Ranchi. Such archaic laws would restrict the development of this place.”
Vijay Mewar, State Vice President, Small Industries India, said, “The Cantonment Board in Pune gives permission for an eight-storey building. Why can’t we have such structures here?”
Ramgarh is one of the 62 Cantonment Boards in the country where the local civic body functions under the administrative control of the Ministry of Defence. As per CBR rule, only G+1 building is allowed. Recently, former MLA Shankar Choudhary Demanding action, about 400 buildings were written to the CBR, after which the notice was served.
CBR, on the other hand, said that they will soon send a proposal to allow G+4 building to the headquarters, after which further action can be taken.
