Chandigarh/Dehradun: After a day amarinder After Singh announced that he would quit the Congress, the former CM on Friday came under attack from AICC’s Punjab ideologue Harish without a hitch. Rawat who alleged that the Captain had circulated the theory about the “insult” Congress Lead to gain sympathy.
On Amarinder’s meeting with the Home Minister Amit ShahRawat said it “raises a question mark on his secular credentials”. “Amarinder’s ideology does not align with that of BJP leaders and I believe they are only using him as a mukhauta (mask),” Rawat said.
Amarinder hit back at Rawat’s “outrageous claims and allegations”, which he said were clearly motivated by the “pathetic” situation the party found itself in Punjab after being on a winning spree for four-and-a-half years. “Three weeks before leaving the post of Chief Minister, I had offered to tender my resignation. Sonia Gandhi But he had asked me to continue in the post,” Amarinder said, adding that the humiliating manner in which he was forced to resign hours before the CLP meeting, which apparently called for his removal, was It was a matter of public record. “The world has seen the humiliation and humiliation inflicted on me, and yet Rawat is making claims to the contrary,” he said, “if this was not an insult then what was?”
Addressing media persons in Dehradun, Rawat said it appeared that Amarinder’s recent remarks were “made under some kind of pressure and he should reconsider and not directly or indirectly help the BJP”. Later, Rawat said in a press statement, “There was a general perception that Amarinder and Badal were helping each other with a secret understanding. I always humbly suggested them to initiate action on our election promises. At least five times I discussed these issues with Capt. Saab but to no avail.”
Rawat said Bargari sacrilege was discussed hotly in cabinet meetings during Amarinder’s tenure and later several prominent ministers came to Delhi complaining that the Congress could not win the Punjab elections with him as chief minister.
He said that as a solution, the Congress high command constituted a three-member panel, which listened to more than 150 prominent leaders of Punjab. Rawat said, “The overwhelming majority of Congress MLAs in this meeting had clearly expressed dissatisfaction with the working style of the Amarinder administration.
After lengthy discussions, Amarinder agreed to implement the 18 points which were suggested by the panel to the Congress President. However, Amarinder did not implement even one of these 18 points, Rawat alleged.
“Born out of his stubbornness, he believed that he did not need advice from anyone, including his MLAs, ministers and the party leadership. However, I went to his house again and had a lengthy discussion with his officers. We came to five points, which he promised to implement within the next 10 days. After this, 20 days passed, and we did not hear anything from him. Congress MLAs and ministers were getting restless,” Rawat said.
He said 43 MLAs have signed a letter against Amarinder demanding a CLP meeting. Rawat said Sonia Gandhi also spoke to Amarinder about the complaints signed by the 43 MLAs.
Riding on Rawat’s remarks that he was under pressure, Amarinder said the only pressure on him for the past few months was his loyalty to the Congress, due to which he continued to endure humiliation after insult. “If the party didn’t intend to humiliate me, why was it?” Navjot Singh Sidhu Allowed to openly criticize and attack me on social media and other public forums for months? Why did the party under Sidhu give a free hand to the rebels to curtail my authority? Why for four and a half years no cognizance was given to the uninterrupted spree of electoral victory I handed to the party,” he asked.
