Remembering Sir Syed Ahmed on his birth anniversary today, know more about the day – Times of India

Today is the 205th birth anniversary amu Founder Siro Syed Ahmed Khan, Mr Syed Ahmed, the founder of AMU, was born on this day in Daryaganj, Delhi. He wanted the Muslims to have the Quran in one hand and science in the other. He laid the foundation of AMU as Madrasa-tul-Uloom in 1875.
Mr Syed Ahmed Khan wanted the Muslims to have Quran in one hand and science in the other. This was the time when Muslims were backward in terms of education. Sending daughters to school was considered against honour. Sir Syed took the initiative to change this thinking. Like Oxford University, India had dreamed of such a university. In 1875 he laid the foundation of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) with seven students as Madrasa-tul-Uloom. Which has made its mark in the country and the world today. Students studying in AMU are also making this dream of Sir Syed a reality. They are lighting the lamp of education by opening educational institutions in the country and abroad.
Born on 17 October 1817 in Daryaganj, Delhi, Sir Syed Ahmed took training in Arabic, Persian, Urdu. Worked in Delhi before staying in judicial service and Agra, In 1864 he was posted as Munsif in Aligarh. This arrival proved revolutionary for Sir Syed. The revolution of 1857 shook him. Sir Syed started a job in the East India Company during that time. To answer the British in their own language, he dreamed of opening institutions like Oxford and Cambridge University in India. On January 8, 1877, the foundation of the Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental (MAO) College was laid on 74 acres of army cantonment land. In 1920, this college got the status of Aligarh Muslim University.
In his journey from MAO College to AMU, Sir Syed K Chaman has produced many alumni who have brought laurels to his institution. Jamia Millia University of Delhi was established on 29 October 1920 by the alumni of AMU JAMA Masjid, Maulana Muhammad Ali JauharMaulana Shaukat Ali, Abdul Majeed Khawaja and Dr. Zakir hussain was its founding member. Around 1925, Hakim Ajmal Khan took it to Karol Bagh in Delhi. Jamia Millia was established in 1936 near Okhla after getting more land there. Which is today included in the selected universities of Delhi.
