Bayern Munich have agreed a deal in principle to sign 17-year-old Rennes forward Mathis Tell, who coach Julian Nagelsmann hopes will “get 40 goals a day in a season”.

Tel, who plays for France’s under-18 team, made seven brief Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes last season.

“I have a vision that he will score 40 goals a day in a season,” Nagelsmann said during the Bundesliga champion’s pre-season tour of the United States.

“But if he scores 10 goals this season, we will be very happy.”

The clubs have yet to officially announce the transfer, which media reports suggest could be up to 28.5 million euros ($29.1 million) after the add-on.

“We are looking for young players that we can develop into world-class players, and he could be one of them,” Nagelsmann said.

Bayern have already signed Sadio Mane from Liverpool, Dutch centre-back Matthijs de Ligt from Juventus and Ajax pair Ryan Gravenberch and Nausser Mazrouei in a close season.

The Bavarian giants will face RB Leipzig in next weekend’s German Super Cup in Eintracht Frankfurt’s defense of the Bundesliga title.
