Robotic surgery training facility soon in AIIMS Delhi | what do we know

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi and India Medtronic Pvt Ltd have entered into a collaborative agreement to co-create and develop a robotic training facility at the premier hospital, which had already issued an expression of interest to set it up here .

In an official statement, AIIMS Delhi said, “We have entered into a collaborative agreement with India Medtronic Pvt Ltd to create a robotic training facility here on the campus.”

“It will provide clinical education and surgical robotic skills to residents on a non-profit basis and Faculty of AIIMS and other educational institutions with MeHNAT (Medtronic Hugo and AIIMS training) in robotic surgery,” the statement read.

Notably, it is the first of its kind robotic training facility for healthcare professionals in a government setup in India and also the first faculty-led procedural training center in the Asia-Pacific region.

How will the robotic surgery facility help healthcare professionals?

The Public Medical Research University and Hospital in New Delhi said it will train health professionals on robot-assisted minimally invasive surgery through technical and procedural training.

Implementation of the robotic surgery training facility will enrich the clinical community and enhance patient outcomes using procedural and evidence-based medical education activities.

It will provide approximately 500 square feet of space, academic area, cadavers/tissue for training and a pool of trained faculty among others.

“AIIMS, New Delhi has been an early adopter of this innovation in medical technology and has a talent pool of faculty using robotic surgical systems for many years. Keeping in view the availability of sufficient number of master trainers AIIMS New DelhiThere is an urgent need to set up robotic surgery training facilities at AIIMS New Delhi and other health facilities in India to train doctors, said the office memorandum issued by Dr M Srinivas, director of AIIMS Delhi.
