Rohit Sharma holds captaincy record as India beat West Indies 3-0 to reach No. 1 spot in T20Is

India continued to dominate the West Indies in the T20I format, completing a clean sweep of the 3-match T20I series in Kolkata on Sunday. India won the final T20I by 17 runs to ensure West Indies go home without winning a single match on their tour in February.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma also created a new record as he became the first Indian captain to whitewash the team in 3 or more series in T20I cricket. Rohit had earlier cleaned up India against Sri Lanka (2017), West Indies (2018), New Zealand (2021). He is the third captain after Pakistan’s Sarfaraz Ahmed (5) and Afghanistan’s Asghar Afghan (4) to achieve the feat.

Suryakumar Yadav displayed his brute force on the way to an explosive half-century and was well supported by Venkatesh Iyer as India posted a challenging 184 on Sunday.

Suryakumar hit seven sixes and a four in an exceptional clean-hitting performance before being dismissed for 65 off 31 balls in the final. India scored 86 runs in the last five overs.

Fast bowling all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer remained unbeaten on 35 off 19 balls with four fours and two sixes as the duo shared a 37-ball 91 for the fourth wicket to help India recover from a mini-middle-order collapse.

The pair of Shreyas and Ishaan put up a fifty-plus score in just 32 balls and failed to convert their starts and were dismissed within a span of seven balls.

It was the Indian batting order in a new form on display, with Ishan Kishan opening the batting with Gaikwad, while Shreyas Iyer batted at No. 3, and skipper Rohit Sharma dropping them to No. 4.

However, Ishaan struggled to get going as he was dismissed for 34 off 31 balls while Ruturaj was dismissed for 4 in the third over itself. Captain Rohit struggled at No 4, scoring just 7 runs in 15 balls, but thanks to a brutal attack from Suryakumar and Iyer, India succeeded.
