Rupee closes 4 paise higher at 82.75 against US dollar

The rupee recovered its opening losses and closed 4 paise higher at 82.75 (provisional) against the US dollar on October 21, tracking a positive trend in domestic equities.

In the interbank forex market, the local currency opened at 82.89 and saw a high of 82.59 and a low of 82.91.

It finally closed at 82.75 against the US currency, registering a rise of 4 paise over its previous close.

On Thursday, the rupee had gained 21 paise to close at 82.79 from its lifetime low.

Meanwhile, the dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, rose 0.47% to 113.41.

Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures fell 0.11% to $92.28 a barrel.

On the domestic equity market front, the 30-share BSE Sensex closed 104.25 points or 0.18% higher at 59,307.15, while the broader NSE Nifty edged higher by 12.35 points or 0.07% at 17,576.30.

Foreign institutional investors (FIIs) were net buyers in the capital market as they bought shares worth Rs 1,864.79 crore on Thursday, according to exchange data.
