Scary video shows a snowboarder being pulled away by an avalanche in the US

A terrifying video captured the moment a snowboarder was swept away by an avalanche in the United States. According to new york postThe dreadful incident took place in Utah on Sunday. Blake Nielsen records a heart-stopping close call while snowboarding in Big Cottonwood Canyon in Salt Lake.

In a video shared on YouTube, Mr Nielsen is seen descending the mountain when the snow beneath him suddenly gave way and he shouted “Logan, I’m sliding” over the radio to his boarding partner. “I’m staying on top, but I’m slipping,” he shouted.

Throughout the video, Mr. Nielsen stayed on top of the ice and even managed to climb out of the ice. According to ShopHe was swept along by the wave of moving snow for about 300 feet, at which point it slowed and stopped while the rest of the snow continued down the mountain.

Nielsen said the snow slid down about 1,300 feet. He told the Post that he and his snowboarding buddies had tested the stability of snow falling down the Freezeball Couloir and found “no deep instability in the structure of the snow”. However, the wind was more unpredictable than they had imagined, he said.

“Respect the wind,” Nielsen cautioned. “Even a small ‘manageable’ air pocket can break up and send you a long way down steep terrain with long runouts.”

Meanwhile, no avalanche deaths have been reported in the state since 2021, according to the Utah Avalanche Center.
