Seventh ‘Operation Dost’ aircraft reaches Syria with 23 tonnes of relief material

After unloading relief material in Syria, the plane will leave for Turkey

Damascus:

The seventh ‘Operation Dost’ aircraft arrived in earthquake-hit Syria on Sunday with more than 23 tonnes of relief material, which was received at Damascus airport by Mutaz Dwazi, deputy minister of local administration and environment.

“The 7th #OperationDost flight arrived in Syria with over 23 tons of relief supplies, including gensets, solar lamps, emergency and critical care medicines, and disaster relief consumables,” the ministry tweeted. The seventh Operation Dost left for earthquake-hit Syria and Turkey on Saturday. An Indian Air Force C17 airlifted relief material, medical aid, emergency and critical care medicines, medical equipment and consumables from Hindon Airbase in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.

Indian Air Force aircraft carrying relief material, medical aid and emergency and critical care medicines will first land in Syria and offload the material and then leave for Turkey. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar also took to his Twitter handle to talk about the flight departing from Ghaziabad.

“7th #OperationDost aircraft departs for Syria and Turkey. The flight is carrying relief supplies, medical aid, emergency and critical care medicines, medical equipment and consumables,” he tweeted.

The Indian Army also tweeted, “An #IAF C-17 aircraft took off last night for #Syria and #Turkiye with relief material and emergency equipment.”

The Foreign Ministry said earthquake relief materials and equipment were sent to Syria and Turkey. The flight is headed to Damascus and after offloading relief material there, it will leave for Adana.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the flight is carrying more than 35 tonnes of relief material, of which more than 23 tonnes is for relief efforts in Syria and about 12 tonnes for Turkey.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the aid being sent to Syria includes relief materials, sleeping mats, gensets, solar lamps, tarpaulins, blankets, emergency and critical care medicines and disaster relief materials.

The material being sent to Turkey includes army field hospital and team supplies for NDRF, medical equipment like ECG, patient monitors, anesthesia machines, syringe pumps, glucometers, blankets and other relief material.

Earlier in the day, IAF aircraft were loading relief material, medical equipment, medical aid and critical care medicines.

The death toll in Turkey and Syria after Monday’s earthquake reached 28,192 as of Saturday (local time), reports CNN.

India launched Operation Dost to provide assistance to Turkey and Syria following the devastating earthquakes and aftershocks in the region.

India is sending huge amount of humanitarian aid to Turkey and Syria under ‘Operation Dost’.
