Several shanties caught fire in Mumbai’s Malad; murder of minor boy

A 12-year-old boy was killed in a massive fire that broke out in several shanties in Kurar village of Mumbai’s Malad area on Monday.

The fire broke out around 11.15 am and was “confined to 50 to 100 shanties”, the official said.

They said it was a ‘level-two’ (major) fire.

After the incident, a boy was taken to Shatabdi Hospital where he was declared brought dead, the official said.

He said that eight fire engines, four jumbo tankers, ambulances and other assistance have been sent to the spot.

Two hose lines were also functional and the fire was brought under control, the official said, adding that cooling operations were on.

The cause of the fire is yet to be known.
