State committee member of SFI Subhajit Sarkar told PTI, “The Students’ Union of India (SFI) along with Khan’s family and the protesting students of Alia University will hold protest rallies across the state on Sunday and Monday.

“An SFI delegation led by Joint National Secretary Dipsita Dhar and State President Pratikur Rehman has visited Khan’s residence. We strongly believe that this was not an isolated incident. He was being targeted for quite some time. We The complicity of local TMC leaders is suspected in the incident,” the government said.

Agitators will march to the Writers’ Building in central Kolkata on Tuesday to protest against the incident.

CPI(M) state secretary Suryakant Mishra has demanded an impartial probe into the incident, which he described as a “horrific crime”.

State Congress president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury also alleged that it was a “premeditated murder” and demanded that the culprits should not get any political patronage.

Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari also raised a finger accusing TMC.

“TMC people are behind every such incident. How could the attackers buy police uniforms and rifles?” he said.

Transport Minister and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim was smitten by a conspiracy hatched outside the state.

“If the alleged incident has indeed happened, it is reminiscent of the events in Uttar Pradesh and not of a state like West Bengal, which has a history of progressive movements and democratic traditions.

“We suspect that the incident was planned by people outside West Bengal who did not want Khan to be around. Let the investigation be completed,” he said.
