‘Shocked’: Punjab Congress leader Jakhar hits out at Harish Rawat over Sidhu’s remarks

New Delhi: In what seems to be no end to the infighting within the Punjab Congress, party leader Sunil Jakhar has now lashed out at state in-charge Harish Rawat’s statement that next year’s assembly elections will be fought under the leadership of Navjot Singh Sidhu.

In a tweet on Monday morning, hours before the swearing-in ceremony of the new Punjab CM Charanjit Singh ChanniFormer Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee chief, Jhakhar wrote: “On the day of Shri @Charnjit_channi’s swearing-in as Chief Minister, Shri Rawat’s statement that “the elections will be fought under Sidhu”, is shocking. It undermines the authority of the CM. likely to undermine, but would also negate the ‘ration d’tre’ of his selection for the post.

His tweet was in reference to Rawat’s statement late Sunday night. Speaking to ANI, Rawat had said, “It (the face of Congress for the upcoming state assembly elections) will be decided by the Congress President, but given the circumstances, contested with the Chief Minister’s cabinet under the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. which will be headed. There is Navjot Singh Sidhu, who is very popular.

When asked about his tweet, Jakhar told the media: “I have not raised questions, only expressed concerns. I will discuss these with Rahul Gandhi Yes Today”

After Amarinder Singh resigned on Saturday but lost to Channi, Jakhar was seen as the frontrunner for the post of Punjab CM.

Hours before Singh’s resignation, Jakhar had made a tweet endorsing Rahul Gandhi’s “Alexandria solution” and “courageous leadership decision” to end the crisis in the Punjab Congress.
