shocking! Uber charged a British man Rs 32 lakh for a 15-minute trip, how to do it?

Uber as an app can have glitches, and sometimes these glitches can become a big problem for its users. A similar incident happened in the UK when a person who booked a cab using the app was stunned to learn that Uber had charged him $39,317 (about Rs 32 lakh). A man named Oliver Kaplan orders a taxi through Uber after finishing his shift at the Buxton Inn in Manchester, England. He told the South West News Service that he had ordered a cab to a place about four miles away and was quoted, at the time, between $11 and $12, which he accepted as his fare.

Later, they followed the normal procedure and boarded the cab as soon as the driver arrived and the cab took them to their destination. He also told that it hardly took them 15 minutes to reach the destination. The next day, Kaplan received a bill for $39,317, as Southwest News Service reported.

Upset with the amount, Kaplan contacted Uber customer service using the app to find out why he was charged such a high amount. “It said the amount could not be taken because I had insufficient funds,” Kaplan claimed, adding that the amount also confused Uber customer service staff.

The company’s engineers eventually came to the conclusion that Australia had somehow become a drop-off site. It is unknown what went wrong, but it is conceivable that a mistake caused the location to change from Witchwood, Manchester Bar to Witchwood, an Australian park in Victoria. Hence, charging an unbelievable amount. Based on the reports, the issue was promptly rectified by Uber, and Kaplan got his money back.

Kaplan isn’t the first user of ride-sharing service Uber to wake up with a hangover and a hefty bill. A British college student, who was drunk, made a mistake while ordering an Uber in March 2020. The intoxicated student entered a location 250 miles away before dozing off for the full five-hour journey. He was horrified to see a $1,700 bill waiting for him in the wrong place.
