Six arrested for assaulting 50-year-old man in Madurai: Police

“One of the six arrested is a college student,” officials said.

Madurai:

Six out of seven people were arrested for assaulting a 50-year-old man who had come to pick up his daughter at Madurai Minal Women’s College in Tamil Nadu’s Madurai.

The police made the arrest on Saturday after a complaint was registered at the Madurai Sellur police station. “One of the six arrested is a college student,” officials said.

According to the police, a group of youths, allegedly in an inebriated state, were creating a ruckus near the women’s college.

Madurai North Deputy Commissioner of Police Mohan Raj told ANI: “The brawl started over a simple incident. The youths attacked the 50-year-old man after he asked the miscreants to go quietly.”

“Group of youth attacked the man in front of several students in front of the college gate. In connection with the case, a case was registered against seven people at Madurai Selur police station. So far, six people including a college student have been arrested. has been done,” said the senior police officer. Mohan Raj said, “We have written a letter to the college principal seeking action against the student. We have directed the police to patrol the areas where the girls’ college is located.”

After the incident, police have tightened security near all women’s colleges in Madurai.

Earlier on October 30, a case was registered against 11 people at Madurai Tallakulam police station after some youths entered Lady Dock Women’s College in Madurai and allegedly harassed students there.

“So far, we have arrested 10 people in this case and four two-wheelers have been seized. Five of the 10 arrested were college students,” police said in a statement.
