Sonal Chauhan Aces Purvottanasana; Here’s Why It’s An Important Posture

A while back, yoga instructor Anshuka Parwani also shared a picture of Sonal practicing the advanced pose of ‘Purvottanasana’ or the upward plank pose.

It is a well known fact that yoga is an essential part of an actor’s fitness regime. And while actors like Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Ananya Panday often upload their pictures while perfecting poses, Sonal Chauhan is not far behind.

A while back, yoga instructor Anshuka Parwani also shared a picture of Sonal practicing the advanced pose of ‘Purvottanasana’ or the upward plank pose. Though it may sound simple, holding this pose requires immense strength in the arms. In a conversation with The Indian Express, he told about the importance of posture.

Steps to do Asanas:

  1. Sit in staff pose. Keeping the palms on the floor, pull the arms back.
  2. Keeping the feet on the ground, raise the hips and feet.
  3. Keeping the head hanging back, balance the whole body on the feet and hands.

According to Parwani, there are many benefits of this exercise, including strengthening and toning.

  1. It stretches the chest, shoulders, biceps and the front of your ankles.
  2. It strengthens your arms, legs, core and back.
  3. Great mudra to be practiced by women during menstruation.
  4. Tones the whole body.
  5. Improves core strength.
  6. This is an excellent counterpart to the four-limbed staff.
  7. It strengthens your arms, wrists, hamstrings and glutes. However, some counter-arguments also need to be taken into account.
  • Avoid this pose if you have a wrist injury. In case of a neck injury, use a wall or chair to support your head.
  • Parwani said, initially, it is advisable to do all yoga asanas under the guidance of an expert.
